Mythological Love

In stars, he is a conspicuous constellation
Half man and half horse, a most strange combination

(The constellation is an object occurring naturally; not made by man. A constellation is a group of stars that form a pattern and have been given a name based on its shape.)

In legends, she is half woman and half scaled fish
Longing for land legs as her forever one wish

(Manuscript drawings from the Middle Ages abound with such creatures of whimsy. These creatures still fascinate us. Surprisingly, one such urban legend is alive and well in the age of modern technology.)

The centaur, with bow and arrow, out in the glade
Puts down his weapon to meet up with the mermaid

( Sagittarius is a centaur — a mythological half-man, half-horse — who has drawn his bow. His arrow is pointing at Antares, the bright red heart of Scorpius, the scorpion. The archer is avenging Orion, who was slain by the scorpion's sting)

For no rhyme or reason, he succumbs to her charms
And nowhere else would she be than wrapped in his arms

(The poem takes a diversion of a romantic instinct)

Mythological creatures, said not to exist
Yet their daily real encounters met with a kiss

( Mythological creatures, said not to exist
Yet their Greek myth includes many monstrous beings: Centaur is a male, Centauride is a female,a head and torso of a human with the legs and behind of a horse).

The love-struck centaur wades through the murky fish pond
To greet his dear mermaid, where their love can abscond

( The progress of the love is being depicted )

The fleshly desires of their human upper half
Make the dwellers of the forest chuckle and laugh

( To most modern eyes, though, the brightest stars of Sagittarius appear to outline not a mythological creature but a teapot. Steam pours from the spout — the hazy starclouds of the Milky Way)

For how can a man whose lower half is part horse
Be with a woman with fish tail in nature's course?

( The Greek myths and legends are fun filled with a wide variety of monsters and creatures ranging from Sphinx, Minotaur, Centaurs,)

It seemed impossible, a mismatch for this pair
But there was no denying intense love was there

And when there is a will there is always a way
These lovers became one in a water ballet

And through their passionate love making run rampant
Offspring were born, the mythological hippocampus

A horse-like looking creature, yet fully fish scaled
Proving life found survival’s way where love prevailed

( One of the most well known mythological horses is Pegasus . It is a  Winged horses have been used to symbolize freedom   and power and victory in many cultures )

If moral to the story must be formulated
All past prejudices should be terminated

Love is at the heart of every legend or pith
Do not discount the stories you hear of as myth

Cherie Sumner's above titled poem is fun filled stories with Greek mythological events.  The rhymes followed in this poem are beautiful and rhythmically narrated stories about those creatures that are half human and half animal go back to thousands of years into our ancient history..

The constellation is an object occurring naturally; not made by man A constellation is a group of stars that form a pattern and have been given a name based on its shape. The visible night sky is divided into many constellations by astronomers. Organizing the stars into specific shapes and patterns helps when people study them, since they're broken down into manageable sections. A constellation can also be a cluster of things, like a constellation of freckles on your friend's nose. The stella in the middle of the word constellation means "star" in Latin, while the entire word means "set with stars." Stories about creatures that are half human and half animal go back thousands of years into ancient history. Greek mythology is filled with creatures that are half human, half horse. Poetry based on Greek legends and mythologies are many, from those stories, Veteran Poetess Cherie Sumner has now derived an elegant love story.

Please accept my congratulations for sharing a wonderful legendary story through this poem to COSMO viewers.

My applause and good luck to Great Poetess Cherie Sumner
