I observed a bright red Cardinal bird
Fly up to the top of a tree, undeterred
He went about his business to preen
Self-assured, with life below him, all seen
(Cardinals, in the family Cardinalidae, are passerine birds usually found in both north and south America. They often reach on the top of the trees to trim or dress their feathers, fur, etc  with the beak or tongue or to dress oneself carefully.)
Over and over throughout the same day
He flew to the top of the tree the same way
He took in the view, confident and proud
When he sang a song, he chirped it out loud
(When someone is dwelling on the highest peaks, they may feel more confident and proud, singing songs of joy and vigor)
He enjoyed a breeze, the sunny weather
Relaxed as he groomed every feather
Displaying his beauty in prominence
Above the hustling world with confidence
(The same thoughts as above, when a higher position has earned, naturally, the will feel gloried and more dignified)
I wondered why he chose the highest bough
I did not know then, but I understand now
Vast life was below him, he saw it all
No enemy could reach him; no ills to befall
( This is a matter of safety and shelter when someone chose the highest bough, they are more safer and secure from the enemies too)
Then I realized I should live this way too
Cautious and observing, so I have a clue
Who is approaching me and their intent
Upon the highest bough of God’s ascent
( The one who is on the top will be able to know each and every moment of what is happening at the bottom level)
The maximum height is the safest place
To spread my wings free, to give me space
Taking it all in, but from a distance
A path in life with the least resistance
( The above lines is written symbolically, we all think that maximum height will be the most safest place, but wherever you are dwelling, either up of down, you path in life counts a lot )
And then the ones I trust can soar with me
They are protected and loved in that tree
Where down below chaos thrashes about
Ones upon the highest bough figured it out
(These lines brings out the truth of spirituality in an implied meaning)

Man can go up to the highest summit, but he cannot dwell there long Understanding that the right to choose your own path is a sacred privilege.
You are sitting at home and your mind keeps going over the negatives -- over and over. You keep reviewing what has happened to you -- perhaps a conflict with someone, something at work, your living conditions, your finances, your health. Whatever. You dwell on it. You are stuck. To avoid this, you have to be on the high altitudes spiritually. A lot of people sit at home, dwell on the negative and find themselves getting deeper and deeper in their depression. Psychologists call this style of repetitive negative thoughts "rumination." When cows ruminate, they chew on their cud, chomping over and over without swallowing. When humans ruminate, they repeat negative thoughts over and over, dwelling on something either in the past or the present -- but do nothing to change anything. Ruminating is like spinning your wheels in the mud. You don't seem to be getting anywhere, so you just keep spinning your wheels, faster and faster. You keep digging a hole, find yourself stuck, and dig deeper and deeper.
A divine power will contribute everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these God has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through Him, you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. So, when I say a spiritual growth, it includes: increasing in your knowledge and understanding of God's Word, decreasing in your frequency and severity of sin, increasing in your faith and trust in God. In order for spiritual growth to occur, your first need to make sure you possess a true spiritual life through revelations from the top, or the Highest Bough. The Holy Bible says "Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty."
Please accept my congratulations dear Poetess Cherie Sumner for sharing this wonderful verse with thought provoking theme, symbolic lines through-out the entire poem,
