Princess

Princess

The woman sat at a vanity and powdered her cheekbones with a large pouf. Her black hair floated daintily above her shoulders and her bangs barely touched her eyebrows. She wore a pink satin robe and no shoes. Her toenails were painted powder pink and her lips were iced. Her mouth was delicately pursed in a straight line as a young girl cautiously made her way up to the woman.

The woman turned to greet the young girl. She had long brunette hair and was wearing a small yellow dress and mary janes. She slowly mucked up the courage to whisper out a greeting. The woman smiled warmly and took the paper in hand, signing it promptly. She handed it back and the girl smiled openly and look down at it like it was the answer to all life's questions.

The woman was about to turn back when the girl hesitantly started.

"Uh, I want to be a beauty queen just like you some day !" She said as she waited eagerly for the woman's response.

The woman was smiling but inside she sighed deeply. It pained her to hear it. To nod in approval and to deny the scars on her arms. The bruises wrought on by deception. She doesn't know the lies she is told, the ones she tells. The pain she brings and when it's brought back. The failure at nobility and grace. The pills she hid, the bones that showed like the sadness in her eyes as she did indeed nod approval to the girl.

The girl smiled brightly and skipped away.

They never know. They want to believe in fairytales and beautiful portraits and in love and allure. They don't know how wrong they are to.
