RAGE

I woke up with the feeling that today would be different, and indeed it was. It turned out to be a long, stressful and tiring day; even the sun showed no mercy. I stepped out of my room prepared for the worse and ready to battle all forces...be it natural or imagined.

My first enemy was the sun, this battle seemed to go on for hours and I dreaded the encounter. I was beaten red and pink, on all exposed angles of my soft appealing body. My face, oh my face was shown no mercy. Despite all, I stood my ground...and I strived and strived, and moved on to the next battle ground.

Next was the struggle to get on the bus, now this phase I tell you, was no child's play. Like a brave elephant, I overpowered this enemy and my journey began...or so I thought.

Few minutes later, my jubilation over victory from the battle, was brought to an abrupt end. The almighty traffic which I had always heard of but never experienced, came to show me its skills. It had heard there was a new victor in town, and it was here to put the victor in its rightful place. Of course I was not willing to let go of that title...not now, not ever. So, with my sore body and sweat soaked clothes and hair, I fought… I fought for my right and I conquered this zone as well. This time around, I was not quick to celebrate. I kept at alert; as ready as a hungry lion, to pounce on its prey. I waited and waited, but it seemed like I had wasted my time, the rest of the journey turned out smooth.

Then I arrived, I arrived to face the 'short devil' as he was nicknamed by all. Once again I was prepared, I had left my room that day with the mindset that he was going to be the hardest one to defeat. As I had suspected, the 'short devil' did not disappoint. He kept me waiting outside his office on a hard bench...he kept me there for the sun and I to finish the business which we had earlier on started. One hour....two hours...three...I began to lose hope. No food nor water the entire day, through this journey, on the path filled with different stumbling blocks. Just when I thought the worse had happened and there was nothing more this 'day' could throw in my face...the "red robot" came. This was a battle I was not prepared for. In my weak state, I still had to appear nice and pretty with a huge smile. I could not stand the thought of strangers walking up to me in pity...offering their 'heartless sympathy'. Luckily for me, I had my back pack, and in it was spare clothes I had planned to use the next day...since I was to stay over at a friend’s place. I grabbed my bag and held it tight to my behind, as I ran to the nearest store to grab the right war material, for this unforeseen battle before me. Thankfully, I won this fight...

But my mind was still troubled... My mind was troubled because in the midst of all this, the clock had run so fast and now it was seven hours since I had been waiting for the 'short devil' to attend to me. I paced back and forth, almost in tears. By this time the sun had let me be, the area was deserted...I could even say I was the only one in the wilderness. Alas the short devil returns, now he has my time and is ready to set the terms on which this war shall happen. He walked up to me, and raised his head up, in an angle such that his eyes were in direct contact with mine. My heart beat doubled its usual count...I crossed my fingers...expected the worse and hoped for the best. Then he spoke...those words were strong. I wished it was just a dream, but it wasn't; it was a nightmare in my reality. The many battles I had fought to get to this phase at the war front...he said those words and all hope was lost. I remember those words till this day: "I am sorry, there's nothing I can do for you". I was filled with rage...I had so many things to say, but I could not speak. So many thoughts mumbling through my head... 'The sun' 'the traffic' 'the time' 'the bench' 'the red robot' 'the sun again' and now this? I reached for the closest sharp object that I could find...and I drove it right through his chest at the right position of the heart. I did not stop until I was red from my head downwards.

I had not gotten what I came for, but I had won this battle...I had defeated the dreaded "short devil"... I was satisfied. I turned and walked on...not minding that there was a clear distinction between red and my skin color or red and the color of my dress. I walked on and decided to forget that day. The day that was filled with battles...battles... all of which will remain a blur in my memory.
