Star Bate Saga: II

Star Bate Saga: II

Earlier.

It was simple enough. Push the buttons. Open communications. Really anyone could do it.

The girl sat in a red patent leather chair that was falling apart. She had on a dull black jumpsuit with no sleeves. It was baggy even though it was cinched at the waist. She matched this with rough looking black lace up boots that sat at her calf. Her arms, which were exposed, had gold concepts that ran up and down them. These were visible on her whole body. Her dark, long brown hair was tied back into a sleek ponytail. Her taut fingers typed away furiously, every so often breaking pace to flip a switch or push a button.

In mid type, a shrill alarm sounded and she promptly stopped and stood up and walked toward the back of the small room she'd been in. The room was cramped; exposed circuit boards and fluff from moth eaten chairs dotted themselves through out it. A few others were at the boards typing away. She walked past them and went in the back where she poured herself a drink and stood. She was silent as she listened to the small talk made by the two officers nearest to her. She had never bothered to learn the names of everyone. One was a human male and the other was a male with green tint to his skin and three sets of eyes. They were chatting about the launch.

'Captain Carraway is going away on 'is ship.'

"It's a beaty thay one. Like a starr."

'Two years abroad! Can ye believe it?'

"'E's certainly fit foo the job! Descent of Nathaniel Carraway, finest capt. there ever woas!"

'I'd trust 'im with my life and my spice.'

She stopped listening. Mostly because she had heard enough but also because a thin woman of Asian descent slunk up to her. She had on the same black fatigues, but her hair was down and wavy and her eyes were painted up like a meadow: aqua blue and grass green. She smiled a red lipped smile.

"Fe, how are you?"

"Today's the day, Chatoyant."

"So it is."

And with that the woman left Chatoyant and walked back to the monitor. She nonchalantly typed out a few sequences and was greeted with a popup.

Commencement permitted Firmament Corre?

'Yes' Firmament thought, 'Commencement permitted.'
