Star Gazing

It’s 10 P.M. and she grabs her things heading out. Before leaving, she looks around and inhales deeply, taking in the smell of her husband. A dark ceiling filled with lights, million of lights. A light breeze surrounding the atmosphere. The soft green floor caressing her feet. She lays out the blanket, and she places her telescope next to it. She inhales deeply loving the smell of pine trees and wood. A branch breaks close by and a little rabbit comes out to greet her. She smiles and quietly waits for it to approach her. It hops towards her but then stops, hearing something in the distance. Afraid, it hops away back into the wilderness.
She lies down looking up at the night sky, whispering her deceased husband’s name as a tear rolls down her cheek. A howl in the distance brings her back to the real world. She exhales, not realizing she was holding her breath. She grabs the telescope searching for the star, her star. The star that her husband had named after her a few years back. She finds it, shining as bright as the first time he brought her out to see it. Her watch beeps breaking the silence that filled the woods. She looks at it 3:00 A. M.
She packs everything and walks back towards her house. The rocky path leads her home, spiraling like a coiled snake ready to attack. As she opens the front door she is hit by his smell. She breathes it in deeply. She climbs into bed, pulls the covers over her head and falls into a deep sleep.
