The song wove it's way through her mind like a fine thread into a needle hole. The melody was captivating and hypnotic and made her feel for the first time in a long time. It was almost as if the song manifested into a play right before her eyes. She could see the music; she could see herself.

The lyrics were like the etchings on her ribs that she couldn't see or understand but she felt them. Everything that was said was true. Every word encapsulating her heart was suddenly lifted, the glass encasing her now frigid heart starting to crack. The words glinted in the soft white light of the bedroom. They floated around and she could almost reach out and grab one, feel it, taste it on her tongue.

Everything was so different now. Alive. The pied piper was playing his tune and leading her back. She was no longer astray.

She stood now, stubbing her lilac colored cigarette down into the crystal ash tray. She took the cd out of the player and stared at it. Stared at her reflection.

Her reflection was slightly altered on the cd; but she new that it was much worse than it appeared to be.

She put down the cd and instead picked up another cigarette. She rolled it between her lips a few times, sporadic marks of crimson lipstick sticking to the gold end. She picked up a lighter, a standard neon orange one that was translucent. She flicked it on a few times, peacefully watching the flame dance to it's own little song, and considered lighting her cigarette. She declined, and set the lighter back down. She then picked up the cd, and smashed it on the ground.

It broke into a few pieces and she picked up the biggest hunk.

This song couldn't be with her forever. Couldn't be there every time she felt like collapsing in a cataclysmic, ash spewing, natural disaster that was reality.

But just once more, she wanted to feel the music. She wanted to feel the music in every inch of her body, in her bones, in her veins, on her skin, and in her blood.

"I want to feel again." She uttered shakily as she slowly dragged the shard across her throat. A little trickle of blood seeped out. She re positioned her cigarette and drug it across harder this time. She fell back on her floral bed sheets with a small thud.

And the cigarette, planted so firmly between her teeth, fell out.
