The Downfall of the Atari 5200

The Downfall of the Atari 5200

If you were born in the late 80s or early 90s, you won't know anything much about the Atari 5200. The Atari 5200 was a video game console and three things lead to its downfall. !. The controller, 2. The original asking price and 3. The video game crash of 1983.
The controller sucked. It made the gameplay difficult and people hated it. The original asking price was over $200.  I read online that the original asking price was about $269 when it was released in 1982. Parents would not pay that price when they could get the Atari 2600 for their kids which was half as much.
The video game crash of 1983 also contributed to the Atari 5200s demise. But in some ways the 1983 video game crash was a good thing. It caused games to be sold at cheaper prices. I was able to buy a lot of Atari 2600 games for only $5.00 each.
If those three things had been different, I believe that the 5200 would've been a success. It was twice as powerful as the Atari 2600. The 2600 only had 8k of memory. The 5200 had 16k. I have always been a video game junkie and I wish that the 5200 had been as successful as its predecessor, the Atari 2600  If it had came with a better controller, had a cheaper price tag and if the 1983 video game crash hadn't happened, I honestly believe that it would've been a hit.
