The Giant's Apple

Life and human history is like a giant that is eating an apple that makes him grow big and strong. The giant holds the shiny apple in his hand, the pinnacle of human exploits and civilization, then the giant proceeds to take few scrumptious bites out of the apple; war, conquest, famine and death. Then he devours all of mankind and their higher aspirations, down to its core and essence, and then digesting the whole apple itself. The satisfied giant gives a loud burp of pleasure, and another delicious apple appears from his mouth, more tasty and divine than the first one he ate. He sees the wonderful apple grow in his palm once more, shiny and moist and wholesome, and soon his appetite can wait no more, and he devours the second marvelous apple as he did the first. After being satisfied once more, and having grown bigger and stronger from the sustenance of his food, he gives another great burp, and the next magic apple appears, bigger and tastier than all those he already ate. The giant grows huge and mighty, as the whole process repeats itself endlessly, and civilization replaces civilization, until the mighty giant arises at a last from his feast, and goes forth to rule and conquer all.Â
