todays interview blog...

interview
It all went pearshaped. I had not prepared, only my paperwork which I already had since the last interview. My sat nav was not in the place I thought it was, therefore I had to used the dash cam/satnav which wasn't familiar to me. It sent me to Dinnington Leopold street instead of city centre Sheffield. Do you know the feeling, when you are on the wrong road, and you know it, but you have to finish the destionation just to prove yourself right? Leopold St in Dinnington is a suburban area, did not look at all like a city centre, there were no trams for a start.. only ladies pulling their shopping trollies. I googled the agency and reset the satnav for city centre, only forty five minutes away, so I was five minutes late by their calculations. The traffic was bad, and it became twenty minutes late. There was no where to park on arrival. Only a parade of parking meters, and I only had a pound, so I dutifully put the pound in, and it gave me half an hours grace. I followed my sat nav walking utill I found the huge building tucked away behind swanky restaurants. Buzzing the door bell i was confronted by a lift, or sixty steps. Decisions, decisions, being nearly sixty I chose the steps, they are not going to beat me, I tackled them in two halfs with only a slight time deviation on the small landing that no one would notice but a time and motion freak. The stairs arose mid office, and I was seen actively breathing heavy in a discrete way, although I did have enough breath left to tell the receptionist that I had arrived twenty minutes late for an interview.
" who is the interview with?" the neat sweet child crooned,
" Jack Merry" I said, now I had flatlined to normal status.
" oh I'll check, don't think we have a Jack"
I waited by the desk.
" Sorry he's not in yet, the traffic has been horrendous today."
" tell me about it, I have only got half an hour as that is all the change I had on me for the parking meter"
The sweet girl looked up from her spectacles,
" an interview takes one and a half hours"..she said
" Oh, I didn't realise that,"
An hour and a half long? what do they do, give me a epidural before I go in, for I can't remain seated for that long. Gosh, I would have to smile and look interesting..this is going to be hard.
" where have you parked your car ?"
I pointed out the window,
" somewhere over there, I dont know..I shall have to find it"
There's a thing, I had walked with the satnav to the destination but how would it direct me back..it wouldn't would it ? I would have to depend on..my godamn memory..oh no I am truly stuffed now. I remember...roadworks..and bollards..oh I shall find it.
"why don't you go and park your car somewhere long stay and come back" the girl advised.
" I think I will reschedule" I said. I don't know where that came from, I think a little bit of office had begun to rub off on me standing in that environment. The aroma of fast track coffee and cream cake residue had slip streamed up my nostril and I felt a serge of clerical efficiency swoosh over me.
" it's ok, tell Jack Merry to reschedule the interview and we will meet at a later date to be advised"
The wee lassie looked a bit shocked, like I had just fouled her pass in net ball.
But did I care ..no, I just scored one for all the interviews I appeared at and was sent off court with my tail between my legs. I bunked off, and it felt good. Half nine in the morning and I'm loose in Sheffield. What a fab city..I walked in the tram lines, and found my car without a parking ticket on it...oh sweet joy...off shopping.
