Wings II

Wings II

And there was a moment when everything seemed to grow silent. To lighten just a bit. But only for a moment. Then the floor began to cave in, like a vacuum to hell. The tile broke apart chastely and started to pitch inward into the gaping center. The noise was as loud as a train screeching to a halt as chipped pieces of tile bounced up and down and chunks of ceiling fell, praying for forgiveness as they met the floor in a cataclysmic collision of opposing forces.

The girl looked at the man lying on floor in the darkest corner and then looked up at the skylight. The moon was still whole. It shone brightly upon her making her glow like a celestial being. She stepped back and the a hole opened up in the middle of the floor and began maniacally devouring everything in sight. The girl looked at the man one more time. He met her eyes and they glimmered momentarily before going dead. The gap hungrily clawed towards both of them. Equipment started to come apart and follow down the rabbit hole as it grew and grew, coming ever close to the girl.

Finally she gained her bearings and unfolded her wings in a grandiose show of gusto and abhorrence. They were midnight black and almost filled the entire room. In one swift sweep she was off the ground and steadily gliding upward.

Although, the growing void was too powerful and like a cosmic black hole; like an addiction; it pulled her back down towards it. She thrashed her wings harder now, trying to fight the force. But it pulled her harder, so that she dipped back at an angle. With her new view she could see the man get himself pulled into the void. As she caught his eyes he seemed to smile.

She was upright again, and beat her wings harder. She gradually started to move up and further away. The void spanned the whole floor now. It pulled with a force equal to sin.

By now she was approaching the glass ceiling. It was would take a force equal to the void to break through it. So she let the void take her down a bit. A felt herself succumb to it, to feel the helplessness as it tugged her down and laughed a gear screeching laugh.

And then she propelled herself upward and broke through the glass in one graceful swell. She broke through first with her palm and then her arm and finally her wings shattered the rest of it and she rose into the night. The glass enveloped her and spread out through the night like stars or pieces of soul and innocence of being. She seemed to pause in midair as she rose in-front of the moon. For a moment she was totally black; her wings and arms out she looked like an unholy avenger. But only for a moment, for she fell like a holy savior.
