It’s your job to keep your job-

I can’t express the importance of this step enough. Sometimes it’s your job to keep your job. If you’re in a commission based position or work for tips, there’s going to be times when you’re actually losing money by being at work. If you’re not meeting your commission goal and your base pay is minimum wage or less, you’re at a loss for the first few hours. Perhaps you’re a server, and you’re in the worst section to make money. You better have brought a lunch, because the cost of an average lunch will set you back another two hours. Despite such circumstances you must remain level-headed.

I’ve seen this hundreds of times; a server blows up and gets sent home over their pride. Shut-up and get to work. If you want to stand out in the work place, now’s your chance. You don’t think the boss knows it’s a shitty section? The boss’s expectation is low due to all the servers that bitch and complain every day. This is the perfect opportunity to exceed his/her expectations by simply doing your job without reenacting a scene from “Waiting”. The good news is, chances are you have a job that will eventually produce, if it has proven to provide in the past.

The temptation is to quit. You must avoid the urge to walk out or pick a fight with your boss about how unfair things might appear. You’re going to feel like you owe it to yourself, that you deserve better and in the process you will convince yourself that leaving is the only option. If I ask you to find ten things you like about someone or something you hate, I bet you could. On the contrary, if I asked you to find ten reasons you hate someone or something you enjoy; you will be able to do so as well. Seek and you shall find. It all comes down to what your internal representation of any given situation is.  Like I expressed before, you job will eventually pay you a return on the “lost day”.  Look, just don’t quit your job until you have another job lined up, but for now staying will be one more day of employment.
