AFRICAN DANCER

AFRICAN DANCER

The painting work is produced due to the inspirations from the way men dance during traditional festivals in the region I was born. In the painting, a male human figure is depicted raising his left leg and the right one on the ground in the frontal direction whilst the upper torso turns to the direction of the right hand side from the viewer. The work is produced using acrylic on canvas by the combination of the sfumato and impasto technique. The symbolic meaning of the colours such as the pink for the love African men have for dancing, the yellow-ochre signifies the royalty of an African dancer, the blues signifies the cool atmosphere of the dancer and the brown signifies the strength of the dancer. The movement of the figure let the viewer feels that is war dance performed in the olden days up to today during festivals in the Southern part of Volta Region in Ghana, West Africa.
