My First Love

My First Love

All those years ago, of all the words I could utter,
indelible memory when kisses tasted of bread and butter;
now we've moved to a different level, we know it all,
what happened to childlike perceptions and things magical?

Of course, experience comes in different forms they say,
perhaps less would be preferable when you look at today,
'I neve thought, I didn't realize . . .' the real depth of love,
my mother told me that things fit together like a glove.

In fact, mothers often have a quaint synopsis don't they?
'Now you run along, don't be silly, asking: 'What's a good lay,'
mother thought she was 'safe,' but nothing could stop me,
destined to appear with my questions, mystique and mystery.

In hindsight, the answers were provided by heaven above,
and actually after all that - my mother was my first real love.
