My Song

My Song

As much as the thought of death terrifies me
I can't help but imagine
it must be beautiful?

well, none on earth
can say they have been to see for themselves?

otherwise they’d have to explain
how on earth can they be here now?
If you'll pardon my pun

I guess I was dead before I was born?
That’s a theory personal to me

I don't remember it hurting
before I was alive
sometimes, life hurts now though

I know many people
who are on the other side
i've never heard of any of them coming back
because they hated it?

and why are graveyards so terribly cold?
not much fun nor pleasant on the eye
even though a tombstone has a name on it
all those names are just a memory for someone here right?

having visited many graves
I can honestly say
It’s a peaceful place
dark to the living heart yes
yet I believe those lost souls
must be somewhere?

probably in a parallel world
of complete content?

not as who they once were
but as themselves
and who they always really wanted to be?

it must be a beautiful place
full of every wonder that we don’t have here?

when I get there
maybe i’ll even be a songwriter?
because…

this is my song.

I've learned to be happy just being a poet, which was easy, because it was always the primary. This piece rings sad, but I know you'll be okay so long as you feed that imagination of yours. Believe me, I'm one to know, not everybody has one.

Hey dear Rory, it's deep reflection so glad you always understand my work. Don't feel sad though if we didn't live we could never die. 🌹  So make your life your song.
Always such a pleasure to see you my dear friend. 💙

Shirley, thank you, that was so wonderful and thought provoking. I think about those things all the time, and I love how it made me think more, and had a positive, hopeful spin on it. I go so back and forth on there being anything after this, and some days, the really bad ones, I think no, and in some things I see, the beauty of nature and animals, I think yes. I sure hope so, and I hope I'll meet you there. Had to Pin that so I can reread it over and over.
Great write.

Thank you so much dearest Mathew, for such a kind review,  I'm not religious at all but I do ponder the idea of heaven, and I guess you have read this incredibly well if you say it's positive, thank you, I'd like to think life is a song and we sing our tunes and dance through each piece of music dark and light but the ending is inevitable so why shouldn't we embrace it. I'm so glad you found this thought provoking my questions can be answered by themselves in the minds of other  poets who read my work. Thank you again for your beautiful review. 🌹

Hello Shirley...

You don't believe people who say they have had an NDE?

When you've been within minutes of thinking you're dying..

It does something to you...

I knew it wasn't going to be those times because, of what I didn't see or hear...

Great write!

Thank you for sharing...
