A Nemesis So Hurtful As Thee

A Nemesis So Hurtful As Thee

I think that I’m too much for you,
I know that I’m too much, it's true.
Will you tell me otherwise?
It matters not anyway,
In the depths of my heart, I always knew.

I think there’s too much of me,
In empty corners and spaces unseen.
Will you tell me otherwise?
It matters not anyway,
For misery…has crowned me her Queen.

I cry, “Oh love, why must thou oppose me...?”
In return, it whispers, “I would never evade thee.”
But how my soul has yearned for you,
To fill the emptiness in my solitude.

Selfish—I am in my devotion,
Lacking in communication.
Tired and weary, I wait,
Alone in this barren place.
It is a shame my heart has only ever felt your loathe...
Your reputation is your only oath.

I’m up to the task,
And so I dare to ask,
Why must thou oppose me?
In return, you insist,
“I will never evade thee.”

Yet how my soul still yearns for you,
To fill the emptiness in my solitude.
And I swear to the gods that when you do,
I’ll pay it all back in magnitude.

I enjoyed reading your poem, Ihotu. Many people can relate to the experience of unrequited love or feeling love for someone while still embracing loneliness. Thank you for sharing your poetry.

I appreciate your commentary, Angel. It is comforting to know that such a feeling resonates with other people. Thank you for taking the time to read my bleeding words.
