Sailor of the Sea

Raucus, rolling laughter,Ā
Like waves breakingĀ
Surround the tiny room
Filled with smoke and whisky fumes
Daylight in tiny streams dance with dust
Ruddy good natured faces
Weathered by sun and storm
Slapping and punching, teasing old friends.
The party these men consists of war stories and lies
Fondly retold 200 times in all
Fishing vessel captains and the crew that endured.
Celebrating the departure of one mate
Someone had his photo set on a window ledge
The hushed Revere of the raging sea that stole
A sailor from his home and forever he will be
One of the few who braved
The fiercest weather and cold
To earn a honored wage and be a sailor of the sea
