THERE WILL COME A DAY

With piercing eyes, you look at me
And conclude what I will be
A leaf fallen from a decaying tree
Lost in the myer for eternity.
Never will your ship set sailÂ
Your tongue, like a whip, prevails.
Like a towering oak, you stood over me
Casting your shadow of doubtÂ
In the future, you will not be able to see.
But though my heart lies in despairÂ
And your words like dust fill the air
The day will come when the clouds will give way
To robust sunshine and brighter days.
If grace be kind to your wicked soul
Then the light from above will cause you to beholdÂ
The gifts and talents placed in me
And a world of accomplishments you could not see.
Wilford Barker,

what an opening line with such visual magnitude, carrying the theme throughout but not forcefully giving it real strength in the meaning. Powerful stuff here WB.Â
