First Contact

The Dark Forest

First Contact

Universally speaking what are the odds,
A signal received by another race.
Intelligent and extraordinarily advanced,
Otherworldly without a human face.

Cold malevolence fills alien minds,
Perceiving everything as a threat.
For any signal betrays its location,
Swiftly eradicated without regret.

The universe is a dark forest,
Where any slight sound made.
Is heard by hidden hunters,
Whom others do silently evade.

*

'Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.'

'Be quiet...or they'll hear you.'

'𝙄𝙛 𝙄 𝙙𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙮 𝙮𝙤𝙪, 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙗𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙞𝙨 𝙞𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙨?'

Hey Shaun. This is cool. It remind me of different alien films. Snippets of your lines create that. Short but dramtic piece. I think they are the best lol. I like the dialogue at the end. Thats clever!

Hey Pratibha and thank you kindly for stopping by.
But first things first and more importantly, after arriving home feeling tired after work, my spirits soared for a certain package with a certain book inside greeted me on the doormat.
Looks great and perviewed a few pages inside and was not disappointed.
Will read in depth later this evening and  my lunchbreak tomorrow.
Amazon review be posted by tomorrow night (if I can put the book down).
That might take another day for them to process, for it has in the past.
Anyway, I hope you and family are doing fine and keeping snug and warm.
I also got a pm from your good self and will reply later to.

And glad you enjoyed this bundle of fun poem and that pic is the deadly droplet scene from the second book, which features in The Remembrance Of Earth's Past trilogy, by Chinese author Liu Cixin.

Book one is titled The Three Body Problem
Book two is titled The Dark Forest.
Book three is titled Death's End.
Three Body Problem season one is on Netflix.
Season two (The Dark Forest) will feature the deadly droplet scene.
And season three (Death's End ) debut is some time away.
All of them scary stuff.
Let's hope we make it till Christmas!

Thanks again for your unwavering support and kind words.
Shaun x

Being Me

I wonder .... hmmm ... is there anyone out there?  And if there is ... Will they ignore us? Will they befriend us? Maybe they'll eat us.  But perhaps they are so tiny they get swallowed  by a dog ...as in what happened in Hitchikers guide to the galaxy. Who knows? We've certainly made enough cosmic  noise to be  noticed!  Your words present to us a menacing feel.  I enjoyed reading your poem, Shaun x

Tina we just got weigh up or factor in that maybe ET isn't friendly.
You mention cosmic noise and hit the nail on the head there and five stars to you TV, radio waves, microwave and military, S.E.T.I.'s powerful radio telescopes, not forgetting Voyageur 1 and 2 probes and anything else.
And this is a warning write, a 'what if' scenario.
Thanks for dropping by and your astute comments and enjoying what it offers.

Love anything to do with this subject so I'm sold. We'll written Shaun. Of course there is life out there somewhere but humans are waaaaaayyyyy toooooooo egotistical to ever really entertain the idea. I'm a big believer we were seeded by aliens in the first place lol. X

Well Marion that makes two us on the subject and I'm sold too.
And ego is still out there and don't forget religion many years ago would burn you at the stake if you disagreed with them.
A bit like parts of Swansea on a Saturday night.

Will be reading you soon and having an early night now, for a higher power calleth me, a higher power that I can vouch for and is most definitely human and not a pod woman.

Thanks again Marion and nos da to you.

Hey Shaun, I refuse to believe we are the only ones .. and I don't just mean you n me .. I'm pretty sure you know what I mean tho' and one day I'll share details of my own personal timeslip perhaps .. a few details posted below ..

His Resident Alien Implant is Waiting
for Something to Happen

The device was originally
planted, or rather
it was implanted, many
years ago while
driving alone, along what
he then called
the pheasant run, on his
way to taking
the now long deceased
dog Tetley
for her late evening walk ..
It was obviously
left or rather, it was then
assigned to
the least obvious of places
and where it
was then likely to remain
undetected
or suspected, by anyone ..
No, not even
by x-ray or any kind of scan
he might then
ever be subjected to during
the course
of his natural life on earth ..
More recently
however, he had begun to
suspect that it
might have become more
alert, or mobile
maybe even alive, not that
he could feel it
but rather sensed it was there
just waiting for
something special to happen ..

P.S
Excellent ink and more than deserving of the dubble thumbs up I have subsequently pinned here 👍👍

Nev, thank you for beaming/materialising yourself here and great comment and  I wholeheartedly agree with you there, to think we're alone would be foolish
Totally alone in the universe...nah.
For as Jodie Foster said at the end  of the movie Contact...
'So if it's just us...seems like an awful waste of space. Right?'

If they're peaceful and visit us, first contact wouldn't be at the White House or the U.N. Building, or not even peaceful Switzerland, it would probably be Greta Thunberg's lawn.
I say great comment and boy I'm not kidding with that added poem and your writing and content sings to me.
And you bet, if there's more I'm up for it.
I got a message from you and will reply now.
Chuffed you enjoyed it and your dubble thumbs up.

And dubble thumbs up back at ya Nev 👍👍
