ANYWAY

I'm sorry you say
That Christmas died
And it did and it has
You'd know if I lied
I remember the thrills
Of Christmas you say
How you weaved it from magic
For us kids
In your way, how
Even as adults
We kept it alive
All of us home
all your bees in one hive
you tell me again
Mam, sorry you say
didn't mean to kill Christmas
But We Died Anyway

Christmas is a very difficult time to negotiate when something catastrophic has happened to a person or family. Each christmas light that goes up in the neighbourhoiod can feel like an actual stab in the heart. It is easy to get swept up in the christmas bells and lights etc BUT christmas can bring such pain, too, for people and I think your poem illustrates this fact so very well. Hugs x
Ah thankyou love, I'm just having a moment ... all my poems seem to come all at once these days then I don't write for weeks. I suspect I'm just venting lol.
😊💞
My favorite lines, the conviction and confidence amidst the desire for us to hang on dearly to moments that will never be the same.
holiday hugs xoxo~Rob
Hi Rob... so lovely to see you here. Thanks so much my friend x
Marion do you remember the word ' housewife', which is never used today.
For looking back, Christmas must have been a living hell for any housewife with kids and especially if they were on or close to the poverty line.
Christmastime was to be endured through lack of cash to try to make ends meet.
We were lucky for my late father was self employed, but the larger families in our street, one especially with no father, not so.
It is a slogging match for the poor and the have nots.
Your poem says it all my dear friend.
Hugs to you and the warmest I can offer!

Honestly Shaun... I really don't. Christmas was the absolute for me and my kids even though I was a single parent for a vast chunk. I loved it...we loved it... the atmosphere, our little traditions, the anticipation, the joy...the excitment... 2 weeks of holiday then that has now been reduced to 2 days!! Everybody partied, everybody visited... I'd save all year... we had rich and beautiful Christmases always even when they got older. Then they'd come in drunk and we'd watch Chevy Chase Xmas film at 3 in morning...and in later years go to midnight mass for the carols and choir. It can never now hold such joy with one dead. Thankyou ...it's always good to get your views and talk x
Sad soulful write. The holidays can be tough.
