Gentle leaves

Gentle leaves

It was one day an autumn breeze
drew my gaze onto the trees
as thought acquired some light relief
to the perils of gentle leaves

Those mighty trunks a bosm hold
sturdy branches young and old
maternal hands to love and scold
a brood of leaves in green and gold

There I saw those babes so fare
that dangled in the playful air
then fell without an earthly care
to boldly go and boldly dare

cut from motherly apron strings
the brood did rush to other things
oblivious to what fate may bring
searching for another spring

I saw them play in autumn breeze
floating out to stormy seas
though die they may to winters freeze
a hope did rise to gentle leaves
