One word stands out for me and it sort of leads me down my path of interpretation. That word is genealogical. And it means that I see this poem as one about the influence of the past on what we do now or may do in the future. Specifically the inherited part of the past. Whether this be on an individual or societal level or both - well that is the question. I have my suspicion. Sorry if I am wrong. Great title by the way and I like that you finish with it.
