A Beating In Long Beach

We all stood there, the slutty girls from UCLA, the dozens of families, the restaurant workers, the couples, the high schoolers, the middle schooler,
We all stood there, together, watching as the cops grabbed a man and beat him senselessly.
The man screamed,
"I didn't do anything!"
As the cops smashed his face into the window, cutting his face and making him pour like a fountain, while on the floor the 2 policemen beat him continuously,
And we all watched.
The families covered the little kids faces and nobody said anything but everyone looked around confused, scared.
The police eventually took the guy away with ease and everyone continued looking around, questioning the ways of the world, questioning morals and the state of society.
Then everyone went home,
Everyone ate their food,
Got some rest,
Went to work,
Went to school,
And no one said a thing.
"How was your weekend?"
They would ask,
"Okay, yours?"
Everyone eased back into the trodden road of torment, stuck once again,
Clicking the mouse, filling the water cup, driving back and forth, eating yesterday's leftovers.
No one speaks
But they all know
That in that moment,
Darkness took over
And the fear was there,
The thoughts mixed without end,
We shared it but it wasn't on the news,
No one posted it on social media,
No record of it ever showed up,
And it faded within days,
But I know that feeling which radiated
From the people that day,
It was the smell of revolution!
