A Brief Encounter

She had always considered him
A bit of a lout
Which was perhaps a bit unfair
(Though in truth she had seen himĀ
Quite drunk on a couple of occasions)
But to see him now outside
Sitting against a wall and
Looking rather dejected
She felt a little different.

Approaching him she squatted down
And asked if he was OK.
He explained to her that he had
Made a mistake at work
And got in trouble with the boss.
He was touched by her concern
Having always seen her as
A little stand- offish.

She tried- and succeeded in
Comforting him, then
After a quarter of an hour
She left him so
She could catch the bus home
Leaving them both feeling
Just a little sad
But also leaving each
Feeling more favourable
Towards the other.
