A Broken Rose

A Broken Rose

Today I saw a broken rose,
It's petals all torn and brown,
The colour had faded from the flower,
It's head could only face down.

The rain it came and drowned the plant,
Hitting hard with every drop,
The stem is bent over very low,
But the rain it did not stop.

The wind was blowing very fast,
The petals breaking free,
The last of this flower holding on tight,
To earth, to soil, save me,

At last the rose had fallen,
Not one petal or leaf remains,
For what this little rose endured,
What strength it did contain,

A year will pass and Spring will come,
As nature starts again,
And through the soil sprouting up,
A seedling grows again.

It's not the battle of the rose,
Nor beatings it received,
It's the strength it carried throughout its life,
It's purpose it believed.

At times when things are getting tough,
And things are looking bad,
Just remember things will start a new,
Like rose or Lilly pad.
