a child's laughter
A child's laughter rings
and then fades
in a breeze that circles outward
and touches the water’s edge
and becomes memory
in the ever-changing dance of what is heard and unheard
in a quiet where laughter becomes laughter
where memory becomes memory
in the eternal play of all that will be
and already is
from a beginning where the voice carried joy
before the laughter became a whisper
and since then always echoed in us

There are lines in this that have echoes of other things for me. "Touches the water's edge and becomes memory" is lovely. It reminds me of a line in Supper's Ready by Genesis and "of all that will be and already is" brings to mind the ending to Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd. Maybe it's just weird old me I don't know but hey. Whatever it reminds me of it's a beautiful piece of writing on a great subject. I like that it has no punctuation like it's all one sentence written exactly as it emerged from your head.Â
