Poem -

A dance with the sea

A dance with the sea

The sun was just beginning to dip
Towards the horizon, casting a golden glow
Over the beach. I stood there, feet buried
In the warm sand, watching as my dog, Charlie,
Encountered the ocean for the first time.

His initial hesitation was palpable;
He approached the lapping waves
With a mix of curiosity and caution,
His ears perked up and his body tense.

As the first wave washed over his paws,
He jumped back, surprised by the cold touch
Of the sea. But it didn't take long
For his natural playfulness to take over.
With a bark that seemed to laugh
At his own earlier trepidation,
He chased after the retreating water,
Only to be chased back in turn by the next wave.

I couldn't help but chuckle at the sight.
There was a pure joy in his movements,
An innocence in the way he interacted
With the vast, blue expanse before him.
Each time the water approached, he would dance away,
Only to bravely pounce forward again,
Trying to catch the white foam in his jaws.

The ocean, in its endless rhythm,
Played along with Charlie, sending waves
That were just the right size for him to frolic in.
It was as if they were old friends,
The sea with its boundless energy
And Charlie with his boundless enthusiasm,
Meeting for the first time yet somehow familiar.

I watched as Charlie looked back at me,
His eyes shining with excitement,
Inviting me to join in the fun.
And for a moment, I was tempted to run alongside him,
To feel the same thrill that he was feeling.
But I stayed put, content in the role of observer,
Witnessing the beautiful bond forming
Between my dog and the ocean.

It was a simple moment, yet it felt profound.
The setting sun, the playful dog, the gentle waves—
All of it came together to create a memory
That I knew would stay with me.
It was a reminder of the simple pleasures in life,
The unexpected friendships, and the pure,
Unadulterated joy that can be found
In the most ordinary of moments.
