A Day In My Life

Beep,beep,beep
5;30am the alarms on one againÂ
Time to get my lazy ass upÂ
Time to fill my favourite cupÂ
Fill it with some liquid goldÂ
To wake my weary eyes
God I’m sick of this cold
Â
Stick some toast in the toasterÂ
Butter it on one sideÂ
Pick it up and eat itÂ
Leave the plate on the side
Out the door in a hurryÂ
God it’s cold outsideÂ
Climb into my carÂ
Heaters on full blast
Now I’m warm and toastyÂ
I can continue my journey at last
Late again and it won’t be the last
Arrive at work, gates slowly openÂ
come on hurry up, I'm bloody frozenÂ
Drive in, park my car, fling the door open
Take the slow meandering walkÂ
Now the office is open.
Â
Take my seat at my deskÂ
Mug of coffee in handÂ
Helping me to take onÂ
My daily tasks at handÂ
Impatient drivers wait at the gateÂ
Shouting “hurry up and tip me”
I stare back thinking
I have enough on my plateÂ
And don’t really care if you’re late
God these drivers infuriate
Out into the freezing coldÂ
Coat zipped nice and tightÂ
Trying desperately to stay uprightÂ
Because it iced over the previous nightÂ
God my hands are frozen
Down the yard , clipboard in handÂ
To give the driver his commands
“Tip me now” he demands
“Dock 45, just follow the signs”Â
I reply with a wave of my hand
Back up the yardÂ
Back to my deskÂ
Hang my coatÂ
Look to the clockÂ
I think it is broke
The hands are moving in reverse
I think to myself as I stare from my chair
Only 11 more hours to goÂ
A security guards life is boring and droll
God I’m glad my day has finally doneÂ
I might have said all the things aboveÂ
But I get time to write and writings my love.
This is a polite ask, if you have took the time to read this poem please be kind and leave a review. thanks jeff
