The bird had forgotten it's song, easily done,
perhaps a recording would help it come along;
we forget many things, how to forgive someone,
expect nothing in return, cover the smoking gun.

You're looking for a bonus, you may not get one,
you and your rewards, disappointed if there's none;
I won this competition, by design not accident,
it was cool, not money, sense of achievement.

I entered another at work - I was a winner again,
the only entrant, my claim to fame was certain;
I won money at chess and then a silver spoon,
not born with one in my mouth anytime soon,
