A First

A First

I'm not ashamed to say I kissed her first.
it was a moment suspended in time,
even though it lasted half a second.
A half-second of endless agony,
Waiting, and measuring each other.
she was hesitant, but she said I could,
i had made sure to ask her,
almost jokingly, before asking seriously,
I checked all the boxes.
It was an expectation now,
and to back down would be more embarrassing,
Even though staring at each other wasn't much better...
I don't know if it was willpower or muscle spasms,
that made me finally lean in.
She closed her eyes, I didn't...
It was brief, but pleasant.
A little starburst of warmth.
There for a moment and gone the next.
The stars didn't move,
no one busted out cheering,
but it was pleasant nonetheless.
It was, of course, second only to the mortification.
Of trying to get her first kiss just right,
and yet I ended up giving her a quick peck to remember.
I made up for it though.
It was a first, and we ended up making out there every day anyway,
so the math works out in my favor.
