A Forgotten Hero in an Unmarked Grave

A Forgotten Hero in an Unmarked Grave

He's face down in the mud
A picture clutch in his fist
A crumbled letter in his jacket
Which no one will ever bother to find
A wife at home, two kids as well
They shall never know of this man's death
Or even of life upon the front
He's an unknown hero in an unmarked grave
No one visits to say goodbye
His loved ones wonder why they never hear from him
His memory will soon become a blur
They shall not know that before he died
That I love you was upon his lips
This cycle repeats again and again
To different families though
Life in the trenches they will truly never know
