Poem -

A lost soul

Ian's challenge

A lost soul

Salt in wounds & left to fester,
Cadaver midst sod & crust,
Buried, sunken by faceless jester,
Flesh in rot bar heart & bust.

Devoured adagio within the dark,
Scuttle in crunch, sequestered feast.
Splintered wood twixt dirt & bark,
Beating heart awaits thy tryst.

Remnants, wretched stench & loom,
Pill bugs nestle & dine tonight,
Power of love evades my doom,
Pneuma eternal, hull is finite.

Amazing word choices & language.Β

Favorite lines

Buried, sunken by faceless jester,

The beginning of the poem is brilliant as it conveyed a feeling of somber and pain.Β

Thank you Katina.Β  I searched endlessly for an image and found this and just spoke to me.Β  Imagined someone lay rotting in the earth and yet the love in his heart keeps him going.Β  Thank you for your support ?

I agree with much of the comments above.....some superb word choices delivered in a kind of staccato-like rhythm....it adds to the whole by (for me) making it resound as if a drum beat were driving it on....or an unstoppable heartbeat!!…..hmmm?....anyway, It's VERY compelling stuff my friend!!…..ALL STARS!!…...well done Sir Simon!!…..ALWAYS a pleasure!!…...T xoΒ  : )

My Dear Friend Simon,

A powerful portrayal, of death that's most dark
Something we don't care to think about
Our future so stark

All my love,
Larry xxx
