A Poetess Tale
Anna Akhmatova

In Russia there once was a poetess
Her name was Anna
She was an acmeistΒ
A true warrior or her kind
She wrote in straight forward terms
Not using the flowery symbols
Of her time
The government did not like her
She portrayed life in everyday
She conveyed the feelings of reality
In such bright and poetic lines
I admire this true sister
Salute her words and cause
She was purposely buried from view
By the communistic few
When at last her poetry was readΒ
By the lady herself at stage
The audience stood en masse
To salute her talent and her life
All Stalin could do and say
Was well who did that lady have to pay...
What a thing for a leader to say..Β
Doesn't it give us pause
Of what they all say today.
