Poem -

A Pretty Penny

A Pretty Penny

The prettiest penny, hands down, that the U.S. ever made;
Is the Flying Eagle One Cent Piece, but very short it stayed!
Only three years was it minted, 1856-1858;
Replaced by the Indian Head design, 1859 the date!
.
Few people have ever seen one, except numismatists and such;
They are delicate and beautiful, I love them very much!
And if I was a rich man, with lots of money flying in;
I would buy many pretty pennies, a rare collection I’d begin!
.
I would start out with the first one, the Large Cent of 1793;
Each coin would be a high grade, no worn out culls for me!
I’d have all the many varieties, ending with the Flying Eagle Cent;
Each day I’d marvel at their beauty, and shout “My dollars so well spent”!
.
.
Know where my head is
It’s a penny for my thoughts
Sure makes cents to me

Dear Angel,

Thanks.  It's the "coolest" coin I've ever seen.

Peace and Love,

H Larry..What a find that would be!  I did not know about the eagle penny at all until you educated me in this poem.  I have some coins my grandfather left me that I should look into their value.  I have some buffalo nickels and silver dollars and such.  Do you know how much the 1856-58 pennies are worth?  I love your haiku at the end....very clever!  Lol  Coin collecting is fun, and I wish I had money to find special pieces too.  Love n Hugs, Cherie ;)

My Dear Cherie,

A coins value is always subject to condition, and rarity.  The higher the grade, the higher the value.  As for the Flying Eagle Cents, the 1856 is a very rare issue, and worth thousands of dollars.
In regards to your grandfather's coins, silver dollars are worth $18 to $20 each, depending on the price of silver per ounce.
Wouldn't it be great if we both had the money to collect these beautiful coins.

All my love,
Larry xxx
