A VOICE FROM BEYOND

A VOICE FROM BEYOND

While I was sleep
In my deluxe apartment
After a day of excitement and fun

Scented candle burns ever so slow
And the comfort of my bed
Feels like sleeping on clouds
Under a heavenly glow

Then deep within my restful sleep
A voice I knew from my beginning speaks
Words like a knife dissecting my heart
As I struggled in my sleep
To tear myself apart

Where were my flowers
While I was alive
Why no visits
When I was hospitalized

Holidays came, and holidays went
And over the years..
I've never received a greeting card
Or a corroded cent

But you waited until my untimely demise
To shed crocodile tears
From those wondering eyes

And cover my casket with flowers untold
When all I wanted
Was to hear my Son's voice
Before the giver of life
Retrieve my soul.

Wilford Barker.
