Abandon
a daughter's triumph over depression
Storms battered the surface
and stripped away interior beauty…
neglect compounded deterioration,
fading…
deserted and dilapidated,
reduced to merely an empty shell,
a hollow structure,
the aura escaped through broken windows.
Once beautiful and proud
overflowing with love and warmth,
wonderful memories and laughter
kept safe by solid walls and foundation.
From vibrant to worn
from polished to dull
from colorful to drab
from inspired to doldrums…
identity abandoned.
Laboring to renovate,
evolving…
refinishing the attitude
refurbishing the damage
rebuilding the trust
recognizing the potential
envisioning the beauty
remodeling the interior
refining the exterior
preparing for new echoes of laughter,
ready to entertain love…
with reckless abandon.

A really well written poem! You have so perfectly woven the poorly and the recovering so neatly together. It is difficult enough to suffer mental illness for yourself but to see your loved ones go through it is even more so. I am so glad there is a happy ending to what must have been an extremely difficult journey. Hugs x
Thank you so much! She's not out of the woods yet but there is hope... One sour relationship filled with manipulation and emotional abuse sure did a number... Blessings!*!*!
Bless her heart. I wish her a full recovery x
Thanks!!
I work in mental health and know it takes time, but I have seen recovery many times.Â
My best wishes
J
Thanks John! She's a beautiful girl and wants to help others someday...
