Shoot

Gone are the days of just being disappointed
when life’s out of whack and even disjointed.
Negative emotions seem to be ruling the roost,
but someone may just need a temporary boost.
Instead of steering through a little curve,
the tendency is more toward a full-fledged swerve.
Coping skills have all but disappeared 
and the human race is, sadly, no longer revered.
When conflicts arise, instead of walking away
mental health remains on rapid decay.
We no longer say ”shoot” and brush things aside
and some keep a weapon close by their side.
Let’s focus on listening and family time
instead of chasing that almighty dime.
Stop to really care about those that are hurting
there’s a reason behind words they keep from blurting.
In this world of moral defilement
children grow up with major entitlement.
Help them feel proud by earning a wage,
teach them eye contact, to conversationally engage.
Social media is ripping so much to shreds
from the moment of waking until resting our heads.
Bullying is rampant and a useless waste;
let’s offer compassion with a gentle embrace.
Why do we quickly turn on another?
What has happened to loving our brother?
Resentment is taking on an ugly mask
with minds wandering toward an unthinkable task.
Whether self-inflicted or innocent bystander,
it’s all such senseless bodily slander.
Use inanimate objects to receive harmless slaughter
instead of making the victims someone’s son or daughter.
Pulling the trigger has eternal consequence
and to the rational thinker makes absolutely no sense.
The devil is dancing a happy jig
while sanity is tossed to the dungeonous brig.
When people are turned away, given the boot,
it’s a tragic moment when they decide to shoot.
