Acceptance

ACCEPTANCE

(Whisper)

Can you hear me?

      Can you hear me?

If you can hear me are you listening?

       Are you listening?

If you are listening, do you understand?

       Do you understand?

Can you see me?

      Can you see me?

If you can see me, are you looking?

       Are you looking?

If you are looking, do you understand?

       Do you understand?

(Normal)

Shadows are flitting about,

    dancing around in the midnight.

Playing round and a-bout,

a reflection of a greater height.

They are a mystery,

     in their essence carrying history.

Holding secrets of unspoken.

Spoken out, my heart will be broken.

This is a mystery,

     the essence repeating misery.

My heart lies unexposed,

    but wants to be reposed.

Shadows cover my face,

creating around me a big space.

No one dares come close,

    no one knows how to.

For around me I build a high wall,

even though I am very small.

That wall is the shadow in which I live

the space in which I move.

The vastness of how I give,

hoping someday, myself I will prove.

But the shadows that cover,

    always seem to hover.

Never to open the me that’s real,

always binding me in a reel.

No one dares to listen, no one knows how to.

If they knew, I doubt they’d pay me attention,

    I seem destined for detention.

No one dares to hear, no one know how to.

If they could, they would flit away,

I seem unable to make them stay.

No one dares to look, no one know how to.

If they were to look, they would run,

I seem to forever be the one in shun.

No one dares to see, no one knows how to.

If they could, if only they would.

They would see past the shadows,

    see the little girl inside,

        waiting to come outside.

And join in the carefree meadows.

They would look at the wall,

    see the woman, so small

wanting to come across sound,

and join in the freedom round.

They would find the essence of me,

     and behold the real me;

         who I am ,

       what I am,

    what I want to be,

  who I want to be,

and accept me for who I am.

And they will understand.

Do you understand?

    It’s ok if you don’t,

I know how you feel,

    It’s hard to deal with.

Shame will cross your features,

    Grief will line your expression

and doubt will mark your face.

But I will not judge,

Because I know how it feels to be the one judged.

I will not shun,

Because I know the feelings of being shunned.

I will understand.

    I will choose to understand,

      I can do no less,

After all....

We all are just humans,

   begging for a listening ear,

a caring word, a special look;

    Acceptance.
