Rowen

Rowen

A little boy I did find,

not adopted but living with a large

family along with his mother.

    Quietly she walks around

doing her works with hardly a sound.

This sweet little boy jumped

into my pale arms without a frown.

And pale I am next to his dark ebony skin.

Little boy that he is, he is smart

      and extremely sharp

for all his two and something years.

Large, dark eyes, fringed with curly

lashes rest above his chubby cheeks.

A button nose so cute, characterises his enduring

   round little face.

Sharp white teeth, eager to make

    their brilliance known,

flashes across as he smiles his

  little baby smile.

Following him is something of a

faint smell, as he wears a

bulky nappy, maybe a little overdue.

He loves jumping on his trampoline

and running around with a white

    balloon, also prancing around with

a crumpled red paper plane.

Contentedly he swings on a black tyre swing,

and early in the morning he draws

pictures in the dry yellow sand

        with his tiny hand.

His even tinier fingers shows

 his remarkable intelligence

as he points to something for you to show.

By himself he walks, singing to

soothe himself in the heat of

        the humid day.

A sweet little boy I did find

 walking around with a

dirty milk bottle hanging by his lips

to fill his bulky baby tummy.

And this little boy, he did steal

  my heart with that cute

little laugh and adorable little walk,

  his mumbling baby talk and

round embracing arms.

A little boy I did find,

I pray for him to grow up

    Strong and kind.
