Accoutrements

Accoutrements

They prised the rings off her fingers before anyone
could get there, then the undertaking was done;
nose rings, ear studs, we'll have to leave the tattoos,
when you're finally stripped, there's nothing left to lose.

Now, those finger rings seemed to be a bit of a waste,
because when queried, they said they were only paste;
they left her cellphone positioned neatly on her chest,
just in case there was anything else that they missed.

Can you trust anyone - no, comebacks simply gone now,
so does it really matter, these 'worthless' claims anyhow?
It's like an operation, nearly everything taken away,
but I'll still keep my dignity, no matter what they say.

Perhaps Andy Murray right after all, tie wedding ring to shoes,
and at least when you're gone, you won't have so much to lose.
