ACL INJURY

ACL INJURY

He pointed to my leg and asked 'how did you receive that scar?'
I told him 'that was how I lost my life, tearing my knee in half.'
He was silent, not sure whether to pry or to just let it go,
I told him
'you can only see the scar on the surface, not how deep the damage goes.'

- when basketball was my life

Really I am a bit confused by your response to him...

"that was how I lost my life, tearing my knee in half.'"

My response is meant to be a mystery, because it's something only I would know.
When referring to loosing my life, I'm talking about my career, because sport was my life. When I lost that, it felt as though I had lost everything.

If you read the last part,

'you can only see the scar on the surface, not how deep the damage goes.'

You can read what I've written and initially not understand, because the meaning of this poem goes deeper.
