Ageless Love

We watched the iron tubes
floating slowly up the ThamesĀ
giant parts on a freight barge
I remember him saying
look, thatās the eye
on its way to its resting place on the south bankĀ
we had no idea then
Just what we were witnessing?
we were too busy kissing and frolickingĀ
of course, as young lovers do
sundayās were magical back then
Ā
and now?
Ā
more than twenty years have passedĀ
when I see the enormous London Eye
from the plane descending into my darling Heathrow
flying close to all the famous landmarksĀ
and the captain announces
Ā ā Ladies and Gentlemen on your right you can see the eyeā
especially when itās daylight and the sky is clear blue
it reminds me of my youth
and my innocence and those first kissesĀ
that will always be within my heartĀ
hidden in a secret box of
ageless love.
Ā

Hello Shirley...
It's not over until it's over...
Right?
Maybe, one day you will go home again when commonsense hits the pavement...
Great write!
Thank you for sharing...

Hello beautiful sparrowsong, of course when I can, I go home, I'm very lucky. Thank you for coming by dear poetess. š¹Ā
This is what poetry is all about .. it is about taking the reader on a journey .. regardless of whether it is a good or bad journey, but in giving a brief respite to the greyness of the day ..
This one in particular, is of very specific joyous memories and one, that in part I share, since I could see the Eye from an old friends window ..
Really quite something back in the day .. in fact most probably still is ..Ā š¹
Thank you dear Nev, everything brings back a memory of London to me, but the Eye was particularly special as I left London in 2002 so it was around the boom of the Eye and I really did watch it float up the Thames, feel really lucky to have had that experience. Thank you so much dear friend and fellow Londoner. š¹
