Last Stop

Last Stop

We should have stopped
back at the last station
that was her assigned destination
but we were both too engrossed
in the latest steamy chapter
of our serial flirtation to care

This commuter love affair
of unrequited lust
and now not too subtle innuendos
has been going on for years

The brakes on this train
are starting to wear thin
as they squeak with distress
as my stop comes and goes

Through the long dark tunnel
our vessel is now accelerating
at full velocity
struggling to reach the peak
which will be the climax
of yet another motion trip

Our lightly brushing bodies
both know
this trip to fantasy infidelity ends
when the gray conductor comes
and forcefully proclaims
"Last Stop"

Time for us
lost sinners to get off
and get real
