Alone in the Night
Insomnia

Clock ticking, mind flicking,
From memories past,
To future uncertain,
Floorboards creak, windows rattle,
Alone in the night, a terrible blight,
Eyelids reflect, a darkness you fret,
Tossing, turning, stomach churning,
Sleep you cry, one eye beholding,
to the clock that is right twice a day,
Sleep you plead, quiet you cry,
To voices corrupting the slumber,
Ears cannot listen,
When voices lie silent,
Morning's insistence, you beg in resistance,
For you belong to the night,
Mind ticking, chances missed,
Footsteps passing voices chatter,
To this world you do not matter,
Daylight's mission leaves you dormant,
In trance you wait, an empty plate,
Floor boards creak & windows rattle,
A familiar foe, you aim to battle,
Eyelids give up in their fight,
Daylight hidden from your plight,
Clock ticking mind flicking,
Sleep till day becomes night…

I suffer from insomnia. I found this piece very relatable.
