Am I enough for society?
Am I enough for society?
Feeling torn to shreds to the point where it isolates us
Trying to fit in without being thrown under the bus
Society knows it’s wrong, saying it so often it’s like a song
Or maybe, I just ain’t moving strong
I ain’t perfect, I ain’t no gem
Insecurities consume us more than we consume them
You’re NOT enough, they say, for the sake of their pleasure
Forget about everything, even the pressure
Let our sobs tear us apart
Increasing the cracks in our heart
Gazing in the mirror, luring me to changes
Who’s that girl, who I call a stranger?
You’re this, you’re that
Everything but a pat on the back
Abounding standards, numberless criticism
Manipulative thoughts taking over my feminism
Am I enough for society?
Not yet? OkayÂ
I’ll try to obey
I look to my right
And view this lightÂ
Whom I WISHED to be, a “hottie”
And leave my ineffable body
You’re perfect says society
Oh, the shocking irony
But silently, humanity is poising me
Am I enough for society?
You know what, screw it
Might as well displease their expectations
Cause’ I may not be enough for society
But I am enough for me
