Poem -

an american winter

an american winter

Winter's breath upon the land,
Whispers secrets, ancient and grand.
Snowflakes dance, a sacred rite,
Underneath the cold moon's light.

Pine trees stand in silent guard,
Frosted needles, earthward starred.
Rivers hush their rushing song,
Ice-bound waters, still and long.

Buffalo roam with heavy tread,
Over plains, their spirits led.
Eagles soar 'bove white-capped peaks,
In their eyes, the wisdom speaks.

The fire crackles, sparks take flight,
Ancestors' tales fill the night.
Drums beat like the heart's own sound,
Rooted deep in sacred ground.

Smoke ascends to starry skies,
Prayers for warmth, as daylight dies.
In the hush of winter's dream,
Life awaits the sun's first beam.
