An Ancient Lesson

An Ancient Lesson

The troglodyte stood at the door,
Where was his sweetheart, nevermore?
He leaned against the cold, hard rock
looking out over the newly formed loch.

A ripple in the water caught his eye.
Grunting, he grabbed his club, ready to fly.
A long head stuck out of the water.
He ran to the beach; it wouldn’t get farther!

Running into the cool liquid up to his head,
beast, twice his length, maybe make him dead.
He raised the club, got ready to strike;
when he saw the head of the woman he liked.

He smiled and showed a row of rotten teeth
and tripped on his way on a brand new coral reef.
Grabbing her head by the hair, he dragged her home
and entering he glanced back; saw body was only bone;
only her head and some flesh, minus the rest.
Dropping her hair, he screamed pounding his chest.

He saw red and grabbed the club and ran to the beach.
That long-headed creature would learn not to leach!
He grunted and roared as he ran into the water.
The beast with the long head he would surely slaughter!

When another creature ten-times the beast of first
made him jump when out of the loch it did burst.
He looked way up, and the pain of loss had him act
but he had no chance, and that was a cruel fact.

The ancient cave-dweller lost his life that very hour;
but male chivalry was born for he did not cower.
He wanted to get revenge on his girl’s death;
had not known she had taken her last breath.

Does the long-ago person matter anything to us?
Yes, he does, and she too, please let us discuss.
Archaic happenings do us teach a lesson.
Back then all life had been a delicatessen.

Large creatures ate others very small
and every being learned a mating call.
In primal times, each life learned how to run
but they also learned how to enjoy with fun,
but always glance back to ensure safe
otherwise, predators do more than chafe.

We, now, are relatively safe from any fiend,
our world is a vastness of a safety screen.
But don’t forget there are huge teeth out there,
I talk of an alligator, rabid dog, a large bear.

This is the lesson learned, of the tale above.
Now we all focus on the vastness of love.

Wow, Nome!
This was quite an anthropological epic, to say the least, heh-heh!

Archaic happenings do us teach a lesson.
Back then all life had been a delicatessen.

I should have been born back in prehistoric times, if all life back then was a delicatessen. I find women possess some of the sweetest meat to eat.
Good stuff (no pun intended--I SWEAR!), and thanks for sharing.
