The Anchor Holds

My ship is battered and wrecked
the crisp white sails are ripped and torn
the storm is raging well passed dawn
and the waves are tormenting my wounded soul
I hear the booming thunder and see the
painfully bright streak of horrifying lightning
my ship is tossed back and forth
my compass is showing that I am lost
I've never faced such a raging sea before
I've never experienced such an outrageous outpour
But the anchor holds...
My steer has broken in half
and in the harrowing mist, I've lost the path
If truth be told, I'd rather be dead
for in this blistering storm
no one knows how many tears I've shed
but even though I am out in the open and the cold
the anchor... holds
Many ships have passed my poor, battered vessel
but none would lend a helping hand
None gave promise of the sighting of nearby land
I was lost at sea
broken and fragile as could be
but the anchor held on...
It would not let go
and as sun tore through the blackened sky
heaven heard my thankful cry
Had it not been for the anchor, I wouldn't have made it
even if i wanted to try...
