And Time Ticked

Death poked his head through the harsh lights of the freeway, and one car hit another and many died
but life kept moving
and people looked in horror
as they moved with no purpose
towards their wretched lives
with their horrid woman,
and time ticked
and the sun bled.
Death poked his head through
windows of the hotel
and two swinger couples overdosed on coke while fucking,
the other couples walked by
as the paramedics carried them out
but life kept moving,
they had their own fucking to do,
and time ticked
and the moon cried.
Death poked his head through the bar doors
and a man screamed as his heart began bursting, his eyes nearly popping out of his skull,
the other drunks watched patiently
but no one moved,
and the man fell on the floor
and the drunks kept drinking,
barely phased,
the bartender eventually called the ambulance
and they pronounced him dead on the scene
and no one said a word,
and life kept moving,
there were more drinks to be had,
more misery to drown,
and time ticked
and the stars they collapsed.
Death poked his head through the tombs of the graveyard
and I sat there with him as he looked out into the distance,
the people were nameless
the souls were lifeless
and in this field of
a 1,000 corpses
even death was shocked,
but a dozen families
walked by and laughed
about dinner the night before
and they looked upon the dead
and felt nothing,
and time ticked
and the skull of the earth cracked.
