Another Bloody Wizard

The invisible man existed but was not to do with magic,
you could put your fist thro' his space which was tragic,
Merlin asked: 'Where are you?' I.M. replied: 'I'm over here,'
but he couldn't see - only a sword sticking out of a rock.
Excalibur waited to be withdrawn - many of us are,
Lancelot clopped by, seemed to be an inevitable star;
he'd ridden thro' sorcerers, quacks and charlatans,
there was no one better than Merlin, only also-rans.
Rescuing damsels in distress from sloughs of despond,
pilgrims made no progress really in the back of beyond;
light-pointing fingers either destroyed or healed you,
if you wanted magic, I'd take you where you wished to go.
Thumbing thro' fire-breathing dragons comes to the end of it,
perhaps all this travel to magical lands was just a bad hobbit.
